WHO WE ARE
H.L. "Sam" Queen, C.C.N., C.N.S.
Sam is the founder and Director of Research for the Institute.
He got his start in health as a medical technologist, progressing to a medical reporter and secondary researcher.
Although Sam has 50 years experience in studying the realities of health, he is not a doctor, except for an honorary D.Sc. Degree.
At IHR Sam has developed a health model that allows medical professionals to approach complex health issues in a logical and systematic way.
"The only way to understand chemistry", says Sam, "is to approach it as though the body is made by design, and it is designed to win, not lose.
Holding fast to this truism allows a doctor to understand what the body is trying to do.
Once understood, then the doctor's role is more like a health facilitator, developing strategies that
support the body's effort to gain or retain its health.
Otherwise, you spend a lifetime treating symptoms".
Sam’s wife, Betty has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition. She's the author of Put Down The Duckie and the primary editor of all Sam’s writings. Betty also organizes and manages special projects, not the least of which is attempting to organize and manage Sam! Together, she and Sam are totally committed to the Institute’s vision of changing the way the world views health.
Betty’s hobby and second life is as a Sweet Adeline. She’s been singing with the organization for 21 years, and loves it. In addition, she also loves to hike and bicycle with Sam and enjoys their backyard wildlife tableau.

Carol enjoys working with people and developing long lasting relationships with her clients. She wants to make a difference in their lives and help them be healthier.
She has been married to her husband, Larry, for 27 years and they share two children – ages 25 and 19. She loves to have fun, and most of all – enjoys being with family and friends!
Margo Gasta is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Clinical Nutritionist with over 19 years of experience in nutrition. She has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nutrition. Margo worked for the US Army in Germany as a health promotion coordinator, fitness trainer, and was Director of Nutrition Education for 10 military bases in Germany. In Colorado she has worked in a variety of nutrition settings and in private practice providing holistic nutritional care. Eating disorders and sports nutrition are additional areas of specialty. Throughout the years she has appeared on TV and radio numerous times, and has been a frequent contributor to publications such as the Colorado Springs Gazette in the fitness and wellness section. Margo has also taught nutrition at a local college. She is hoping to have her doctorate completed before her first child graduates from high school (she has three precious angels).
Her passions and social life revolve around her children, biking, hiking and camping. Hiking into huts in the winter with friends is her favorite Colorado activity. Working for IHR and mentoring with Sam Queen---“priceless”.
Cherie has been a constant, friendly face (and voice) at the Institute for Health Realities for six years! She has been involved in nearly every position here at the office. Therefore, we can't understand why she doesn't have all the answers. Cherie's life outside the office consists of; going on hikes with her daughter, new grandchild Aurora, and the dogs. Working out in the garden with her husband and co-babysitting Aurora. What keeps her going is the love and hope of her faith. She frequently talks about moving to the Florida Keys!?
